Calling all beer lovers: this blog is for you! Since 2008, people across the globe have celebrated International Beer Day on August 6th. Founded by Jesse Avshalomov from Santa Cruz, California, International Beer Day has become an annual event that celebrates local breweries, pubs, and backyard hangouts.
It’s a day to enjoy your favorite malt beverage and to soak in the positive vibes that are associated with cracking open a cold one.
Now you might be thinking that there truly is a holiday for everything nowadays, or it’s a little ridiculous to have a specific day dedicated to drinking beer. I mean, most people won’t need an occasion to grab a brew and sit in their backyard. But the International Beer Day Association is here to make you think differently.
According to their website, there are three reasons why we celebrate IBD: “To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer. To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer.
To bring the world together by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures on this one remarkable day.” In my book, that sounds like a reason to celebrate! As we recognize this lively observance, let’s look back (and raise a glass) to some of the global breweries we’ve featured here on Pedacitos Blog.
Libertee Grounds
A few months back, I wrote a post on Libertee Grounds, a mini-golf and hyper-local brewery hybrid located in Philadelphia, PA. Libertee was a great spot to grab a drink because it contained 30+ beers and hard ciders from all around the City of Brotherly Love.
Not only were we able to drink some delicious IPAs, but we also got to visit their indoor mini-golf course for just $10. This is certainly a spot that offers some fun and delicious drinks for an affordable price- perfect for college students or those on a budget!
The Heineken Experience
Team Member, Alex, wrote about her previous travels to Amsterdam- which led her to the interactive tour of the Heineken Brewery. According to Alex, the museum was not only a peek into the tasting of this iconic brew but was a history lesson on the entire Heineken beer-making process, too.
If you ever make it to Amsterdam, the Heineken Museum sounds like the perfect beer-lovers activity.
The Waikiki Brewing Company
For our Hawaiian locals or for those who want to take a vacation to Waikiki- Pedacitos Storyteller, Kay, shared her experience in April about the Waikiki Brewing Company.
In “A Pedacito of Craft Beer in Honolulu, Hawaii”, Kay gave us all a step-by-step tour of the best breweries on the island. Despite trying several breweries, the Waikiki Brewing Company stood out the most to her.
Kay wrote, “I tried 4 completely different styles and loved the fact that each one was so different. For a brewery that’s only been open since 2015, it was nice to see the various options available. Luckily, there was great food as well and I was not going to pass up pork belly in Hawai’i.
What a great dish to pair with my beers. I ended my time at this brewery with a porter, one of my favorite styles of beer. It was a great way to end my first brewery stop in Honolulu.”
Cape May Brewery
If you’re looking to check out the Jersey Shore this summer for some delicious brews, look no further than the Cape May Brewery! I visited this spot last summer while taking a staycation with my boyfriend during the Pandemic. Throughout the various seasons, the Cape May Brewery features different ales on tap.
When I was there, I had the pleasure of trying their Cranberry Beer Slushie. It was certainly something to write home about- the slushie was the perfect remedy for the scorching summer sun.
The Guinness Storehouse
For the perfect pour, The Guinness Storehouse is home to the infamous Guinness stout beer and is a Dublin tourism staple. Located in the pint capital of the world- Team Member, Alex, detailed her trip to Dublin with the inclusion of the Guinness brewery.
For a flat rate, you can tour the expansive brewery and learn the history of this beer. Of course, don’t forget to sample some at the end!
We hope you all enjoyed a roundup of some of Pedacitos Blog’s favorite breweries from around the world. Something as simple as a beer can bring people together, which is the true meaning behind this quirky observance.
If you’re a beer drinker, spend this day getting together with some friends over a favored ale. Make memories and indulge in your favorite drink. Cheers!
